I belong to a Scheduled Caste, but my parents enrolled me with a different surname for social reasons. Today, I am being denied a caste certificate because of this. What do I do?

For applying for a caste certificate, one should contact the Municipality or Panchayat (as applicable). If one of your blood relative is in the SC category, you can use their certificate as reference, when you apply for yours. At first, collect an application form for a new Caste Certificate. Application forms may be available on the municipality or panchayat office or on the official website of your state. You can also apply online for your caste certificate. Fill-up the application form correctly or after applying, download the acknowledgement form and attach the following documents with it: 1. Aadhaar Card 2. Income & Residential Certificate. 3. Ration Card of the applicant. 5. Voter Card and Ration Card of the applicant's parent. 6. M.L.A's certificate 7. Family Diagram 8. Photograph 9. Caste Certificate of any family member. After completing this process submit the application forms with credentials at the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO)/ Sub Divisional Officer (SDO). If your application form is correct, you will get a notification through e-mail, SMS, phone call or post from the caste certificate issuing authority about your Caste Certificate and the specific date to collect it from the office. For example, Delhi government website has option of caste certificate under district administration. Besides this, the earlier you apply, the better.
