Rent private vehicles for self drive

  • 1 Answer

Are there any laws regarding renting out private vehicles in India for self-drive?

Answer 1

Sir, the Government of India as per Section 75 of The Motor Vehicles Act 1988 has The Rent a Cab Scheme of 1989. The section of MV Act and the Scheme impliedly prohibits the use of private vehicles at cabs or for commercial purposes. They lay out a separate procedure to rent a car for taxi purposes and require the owner to get a special license and registration for the business.
