Living together without marriage

I have a query that I have a lover. We both are above 22. Presently am working and my girlfriend is doing her PG. In that situation, I can't marry her without her studies completing.Even I too need some stability. Here my question is that is there any problem for living in an apartment together?

Big NO, legally there is no problem at all in living in live-in relationship. No criminal action can be initiated against wither of you by anyone (including police). The only problem is societal i.e. if your parents are against.

BUT, there are certain legal consequences of living in live-in relationships. Even Supreme Court now recognizes that live-in relationships are "relationships in nature like marrige". Although there is no legal status of married couple between you and your girlfriend, but you may be held liable for legal consequences in case of dispute between you and your girlfriend.

No, laws in India do not prohibit live-in relationships. Laws concerning inheritance, domestic violence, maintenance, etc. might become applicable to your relationship [S. Khushboo Vs. Kanniammal & Anr. JT 2010 (4) SC 478].
