Alcohol laws in India vary from state to state. Some tourist areas have special laws allowing the sale of alcohol on beaches and houseboats. The legislation on alcohol is very absurd. In many state the purchasing age of alcohol is much lesser than than the drinking age. Eg. In Maharashtra the purchasing age of alcohol is 18, while the drinking age is 25. So even if you are caught with alcohol, you wont be penalized if you are a major and not drinking the same.

To know the drinking age of a particular state, kindly refer to their respective Excise Act. Drinking in beaches is not prohibited in India, until and unless the laws of a particular State expressly prohibits alcohol consumption, like Bihar and Gujarat. Also for eg. in Delhi, the government has imposed fine on consuming liquor in public, therefore the law of a state matters a lot.

If any policeman is caught taking briber then he will be prosecuted for minimum of six months and maximum of five years and fine under The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
