Notice Period (NP) is the time period between the receipt of the letter of dismissal and the end of the last working day. This NP depends upon the terms of individual employment contracts and is mandated via a specific clause in the employment deed. However, an employer cannot force an employee to complete the required NP; but if the employee fails to comply with the NP terms then the employer is not bound to pay the dues, perks or incentives to the employee. Moreover, depending upon the terms of the contract, legal liability may arise against the employee in the form of compensation for the damages or loss caused to the employer due to the employee’s failure to complete the NP.
