  • 1 Answer

Hi, I am a small businessman. I want to protect the name of my business, can I apply for a trademark?  Also, please help me to understand the procedure for applying for a trademark and the documents required for the same.

Answer 1

Yes,even a small businessman with a small business can also apply for trademark and protect his business. In this world of cut-throat competition, a unique identity in the form of registration of one's Brand as trade mark would increase the strength and value of one's business. It involves a Seven step procedure for getting a trademark registered. Step 1:To search for a trademark. Step 2: To file the trademark application. Step 3: Examination of the trademark application by the government authority. Step 4: Post Examination. Step 5: Advertisement of the trademark once the registration application has been accepted. Step 6: Opposition from general public. Step 7: Registration of the trademark. The documents required for trademark registration are Copy of the logo(in case of no logo the trademark application can be filed for the word), Signed form-48 (Authorisation form for trademark application), Identity proof of the Proprietor and Address Proof of the Proprietor.
